when we first moved to the inner west of sydney, under the flight path, people often asked me about the planes. did I hate the planes? I hate the planes. not because they sometimes make a din. not because they are sometimes inconsiderately frequent. I hate the planes cause they cause terrible wanderlust. each one that carves its way past my back step is full of the beginning of a journey - [we only get take offs, you see] - each passenger anticipating the unblink of the seatbelt sign as the craft passes pale blues and splodges of white and leaves its trail behind in the clouds. and I wonder where each one of them is going.

watching this sky every day, from the very same step at my back door ... it strikes me that some days, the expanse is so restless, melodramatic and on others it is remarkably constant. on the changing days, a hundred different landscapes gallop across the sky. it is a palate where every colour expresses itself. there is tension and abandon in buckets. on the still days, the same tableau holds its pose from first light to last with the odd crawling cloud apologising its way across an hour of the afternoon. it's a good metaphor for human emotional states I think. some days are rampant, some are even.

9.41am. yes, raindrops.
